Tour of the Stars Honored as Top Hotel in the World for Stargazing
Hyatt Regency Maui's Tour of the Stars Named Top Hotel in the World for Stargazing
Hyatt Regency Maui's acclaimed Tour of the Stars program has earned the resort the title of CNN Travel's
“Top Hotel in the World for Stargazing,” another accolade in the growing list of recognitions for this unique experience. Hyatt Regency Maui tops CNN Travel’s list as the sole representative for the United States, and is joined by properties and experiences reaching from Morocco to Iceland.
Since its debut in 1990, the tour has provided visitors a one-of-a-kind cosmic experience with the use of Hawaii’s only recreational telescope, “Great White.” The 16-inch reflector telescope sits more than nine stories up, on a remote site of the hotel rooftop where, with the guidance of the resort’s in-house Director of Astronomy, adults and children learn to interpret the night sky. This unique family experience becomes intimate and romantic with the optional addition of the Romance Tour of the Stars – a “couples only” tour that includes champagne and chocolate strawberries to be enjoyed beneath the island sky.
Eddie Mahoney, Director of Astronomy for Hyatt Regency Maui’s Tour of the Stars program, has been leading the tour for more than 20 years. With 15 years of professional astronomy experience and two master’s degrees under his belt, he was able to turn his lifelong fascination with astronomy into a successful career in hospitality. Mahoney is the face of the Tour of Stars program, aiding in romantic proposals, inspiring and educating curious youngsters, and helping make the program such a special part of the resort experience. His dedication has paid off, as he has been featured in outlets such as Hotel Chatter and Shermans Travel, and was recently the recipient of a Sharky Award, which honors unexpected and unique discoveries in travel.
“We are so honored to be included at the top of this diverse and outstanding list,” said Michael Jokovich, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Maui. “The hard work we have put into making this experience special and authentic has paid off for our guests, and we couldn’t be more pleased.”
The CNN Travel designation joins a growing list of recognition and praise for the Tour of the Stars. With features on TODAY, in the New York Times, as part of Travel + Leisure’s “50 Best Romantic Getaways,” and in Conde Nast’s “Readers Choice: Best in the World,” this special Hawaiian experience has truly earned Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa the title of “Top Hotel in the World for Stargazing.”
